- Just to reiterate (and quash rumors): You CAN twist and PATH EXTRUDE at
- the same time. AAMOF, you can also SIZE/STRETCH at the same time. This
- function seems to be a little neglected as a modeling tool. Here's a mini
- tutorial:
-
- 1) Make a little "airplane" (so you can see what you are doing,
- otherwise a null point would be fine). A triangle with a fin is OK. .5 (1/2)
- meters is good for length.
-
- 2) Load it into Layout and make it perform a full loop, with the loop
- being about 5 meters in diameter. Remember, at the top of the loop, the plane
- should be upside down. Make this motion take 120 frames, with frame 60 being
- the top of the loop. (Keyframes at 30 and 90 also, 'natch.)
-
- 3) Goto frame 60, and SIZE your plane to X3. Keyframe it too.
-
- 4) Save the motion path.
-
- 5) Go into modeler. Make a flat box .25 meters square. Save it, and
- copy it to layer 2. (This will save you work if you screw up or want to
- experiment.)
-
- 6) In layer 2, select PATH EXTRUDE. The cool thing is, although
- Modeler would normally make 120 segments (i.e. the number of frames) you have
- the option to do more or less segments as you need. You can also do just
- SECTIONS of the path, which because of the way splines work, could be VERY
- important. Set your parameters, and hit OK.
-
- Now you have a cool shape. Note how it flares at the top of the loop as
- the SIZE parameter changed.
